With his surge in the polls, Mike Huckabee is scaring the hell out of economic conservatives and foreign policy conservatives. James Taranto isn’t impressed with Huckabee’s Fair Tax proposal.

Fair tax is lunacy PLEASE PASS IT. We need it terribly to learn some basic economic lessons.
Fairtax DEPENDs on the absurd notion the FEDERAL government can pay taxes to THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
If the government can pay taxes to ITSELF — why would they bother us? Just tax yourself, Mr Government, and let us alone.
Of ccourse the fed governmetn CAN NOT collect money FROM the federal government — but Fairtax pretends to get 500 billion this way.
Neal Boortz wrote “The federal government ITSELF will become a MAJOR taxpayer.”
There is a lot more wacked out about Fairtax — for example, how the hello can nursing home patients, cancer patients, heart by pass patients, pay a huge SALES tax?
I got news for you — THEY CANT.
Fairtax can’t collect half the money it pretends to collect, therefore the real rate would be more like 50-70%. Its absurd, it really is. Please, pass it, I wanna watch!!
