Obama brings new voters into the process and he also has a strong appeal to independents. A major task he faces however will be to unify the democratic party after one of the most difficult primary campaigns in democratic history. His veep must have very strong appeal to the traditional democratic base. As we have seen in the primaries, it’s the rust belt states like Ohio and Pennsylvania that are dominated by this segment of voters and right now, McCain might have more appeal to those voters.
