In a recent foreign policy speach, John McCain advocated kicking Russia out of the G8. He also stated that India and Brazil should be included, but not China.
Now, I understand that Russia is moving away from democracy and that is a problem, but expelling them from the G8 is ridiculous.
Fareed Zakaria rips apart McCain’s position in a very thoughtful column.
McCain will quickly destroy his own candidacy as time goes on.

I am not so sure I agree. Campaign strategies that pander to the fat part of the bell curve has often paid off in American politics. if you ax me, McCain is pulling some pages out of Dick Nixon’s 1968 and 1972 playbook. Stirring up fear of communists used to be a tried and true tactic, maybe McCain thinks that “soviet scare” is a sort of vintage product ready to be reborn.
We’ll see. This and other statements will likely come back to haunt him, as he will probably contradict himself at some point.
