This is a good move.
Barack Obama did O’Reilly’s show tonight (more of the interview will be shown over the next couple of days), he’ll be on This Week on Sunday morning and then he’ll be on Countdown on Monday night.
This gets him back in the news, but it also provides a stark contrast to the McCain/Palin ticket. John McCain is avoiding the national media and only scheduling interviews with local outlets this weekend. Earlier this week he cancelled an interview with Larry King. You know you’re scared to discuss Sarah Palin when you’re afraid of Larry King.
As for Sarah Palin, it may be a while before we hear her interviewed by anyone. Newsweek’s Howard Fineman reported tonight on MSNBC that after tomorrow the McCain campaign will be sending her back to Alaska at least until the middle of next week so she can spend some time studying briefing books on domestic and forign affairs issues. That’s right, Ms. Governor needs to be spoon-fed what she’s allowed to say before they let her talk to anyone in the media.
This is pathetic, but we should not be surprised. She certainly understands her state issues and she has very clear, extremist views on social policy such as abortion and teaching creationism, but she has never had to formulate, express or defend any positions on foreign policy or national domestic policy.

I am not so sure I would say “extremist” views on abortion. One can say the same thing on the other side with anybody who is in favor of late term abortions, a procedure even many abortion doctors absolutely refuse to do. Look it up, the country is about 50/50 on the issue. This was supposedly going to destroy the GOP but obviously hasn’t.
The GOP has a lot to run from and a lot to hide.
To be frank, I don’t think John McCain deserves to be President simply because he spent years in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp. Americans just learned that the unemployment rate surged to 6.1%, that is the main problem with this country. It’s voodoo economics creating housing crisis, credit crunch, high gas prices, exploding national debt and the richest Americans never having had it better.
eight is enough
He better start takling , which is his only expertise, today the polls are 42-42. He’s gone.
Tom Bradley is the key
This is sad, nice to see that Oprah cares about fairness…
“Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America — but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!
Oprah’s staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
“Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. “Oprah’s website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”
One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!
It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin’s historic convention speech.
Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.
Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama’s campaign, refused requests for comment.”
Don’t whine until Palin actually does a real interview.
I’m sure your definition of a “real interview” would be Keith Olberman.
Trust me, she can handle the lazy left journalists…
Larry would hit on her the entire time.
Sarah Palin spoon fed? As if Obama isn’t spoon fed. His entire speech at the convention was liberal rhetoric that we’ve heard for 30 years. What candidate isn’t spoon fed on how to word things or advised on issues.
Sarah Palin is genuine and has galvinized the conservative base, not the lunatics that have taken over the Republican party but the conservative majority that is average Americans.
I cannot wait to see her debate Biden. This will be his last hurrah. He’s going to look like a clown. He’s made so many mistakes and voted ‘present’ so many times over critical issues including foreign affairs, he hasn’t a leg to stand on.
Obama’s biggest mistake, besides the people he chooses for freinds, was choosing Biden. I am predicting a landslide victory for McCain/Palin. I am also predicting Palin will be the next President.
Mike: I agree Palin is good and will mature quickly into areas she hasn’t learned about in Alaska. That said, the election is between McCain and Obama and I don’t see McCain overcoming 8 years of Bush misery.
By the way, why do you think Palin will be the next President, don’t you think McCain’s heart can stand the stress??? While I dislike most of the Bush McCain agenda, I don’t see any issue with McCain’s age. His mother is still kicking around and I think she is over 90 years old… McCain if he wins will serve out his term fully
“Sarah Palin is genuine and has galvinized the conservative base, not the lunatics that have taken over the Republican party but the conservative majority that is average Americans.”
Why is it that conservatives think that everyone else is like them, or that everyone else should be like them?
This may be above your pay grade..but probably because…
The Battleground Poll. It is bipartisan. A Republican polling organization, the Terrance Group, and a Democrat polling organization, Lake Research Partners, collaborate in picking the questions, selecting the sample population, conducting the surveys, and analyzing the results.
August 2008, Americans answered that question this way: (1) 20% of Americans considered themselves to be very conservative; (2) 40% of Americans considered themselves to be somewhat conservative; (3) 2% of Americans considered themselves to be moderate; (4) 27% of Americans considered themselves to be somewhat liberal; (5) 9% of Americans considered themselves to be very liberal; and (6) 3% of Americans did not know or refused to answer.
Sixty percent of Americans considered themselves conservative. Does this mean that most Americans do not know what “conservative” means? No: The question specifically provides an out to people who are not sure about their ideology; it provides an out to people who want to be considered “moderate.” Americans reject those choices. They overwhelmingly define themselves as “conservative.” This is a huge political story – except that it is not “new” at all. Look at the thirteen Battleground Poll results over the last six years, and how do Americans answer that very question? Here are the percentages of Americans in those polls who call themselves “conservative” since June 2002: 59% (June 2002 poll), 59% (September 2003 poll), 61% (April 2004 poll), 59% (June 2004 poll), 60% (September 2004 poll), 61% (October 2005 poll), 59% (March 2006), 61% (October 2006), 59% (January 2007), 63% (July 2007), 58% (December 2007), 63% (May 2008), and now 60% (August 2008.)
The percentage of Americans who define themselves as “somewhat liberal” or “very liberal” has always been puny. In thirteen straight polls, this percentage has never been higher than 38% (June 2004) and it has usually been much lower. The gap between self-defined conservatives and self-defined liberals has been as high as thirty percentage points and as low as twenty-one percentage points.
liberalism had a proud tradition until that fool Michael Dukakis allowed it to be misrepresented and made into a bad word. Obama is doing a nice job of repairing its image, appealing to the memory of FDR and JFK.
SRG – dream on. You can point to that poll, which is labels only. If so many are conservatives, why do so many of them want health care reform? Why does a clear majority support a woman’s right to choose? Why did 80% of Americans go against the religious nuts on the Terry Schiavo issue.
Worry about your own pay grade
All the Plain fans, who’ve never heard her answer tough questions in an interview, sound like a bunch of teenage girls at a Hannah Montana concert. It’s obvious you’re desperate for anyone to support, but let’s give her a little time to prove herself before we annoint her as the next Margaret Thatcher
Thanks for the info, SRG, although I’m shocked you used the opportunity to take a jab at me. At least you’re staying true to your party.
I suspect Gerardo is right. Those numbers don’t really seem to match up with the way many people appear to be lining up on the issues these days.
It’s amusing to me how, as JP described, “liberal” has somehow become a bad word in this country.
G,
That’s funny, I didn’t know only liberals want healthcare reform. Also, “a clear majority” prefer abortion? Wrong, it’s 50/50. And the Schiavo case was another one where many conservatives were on both sides. Weak, my friend. You’re better than that.
And you, Jamey? Don’t you have to go edit out any humor, wit, and intelligence in some columns?
Now don’t cry, I am just kidding….
“Humor, wit and intelligence”? Is that how you describe name calling, mud slinging and weak insults? I’m not sure why you’ve gone out of your way to take shots at me (yesterday it was “pick up your toys and go home”), but I’m flattered.
Now go back to your chest-thumping and chants of “drill baby drill!”
Whatever you say, George Plimpton.
Ah yes, there’s that famed SRG humor, wit and intelligence. Bask in all its glory!!
Next time you write anything anybody has a response to, a reaction to, or even a thought of, let me know.
You’ve responded to, reacted to and had plenty of thoughts about a lot of what I’ve written here the past two days.
Or did you literally mean the next time?
Good comeback, but I meant a column, which I’m sure you knew…but don’t let that get in the way of a cheap shot, because we all know everybody else does that… but you, because you are almost Obama-like.
I never said I wouldn’t take an opening when I see one. I just don’t swing as heavy of a stick as you do.
And are we going to have a pissing contest about our writing now? Really?
YES..then again, no.
Actually, that was a good one.
Browns record? I am worried…
Funny you mention that, actually:
Have the Browns already turned into a pumpkin?
G thinks everything will be fine. Maybe it will. But I had some concerns before their awful showing in the preseason. Granted, it was “just” preseason, but it sure would’ve been nice to see them play better.
The schedule scares me, but then again some teams will not be as good as we thought. I think the Steelers will fall back (their o-line is AWFUL) and 9-7 will win it…hopefully…but these injuries worry me.
I’m going to start harassing you on that site.
Joke.
Just kidding.
Go ahead, but I’m much more in my element on the Scores Report than I am here.
I don’t buy that poll either. Republicans have made a concerted effort to make “liberal” a dirty word.
It’s a dirty word becase it doesn’t work. It never has anywhere on earth. When a true conservative runs for office and steers cler of liberal ideals on the national scene it’s a landslide victory.
Liberals can’t even get elected after a two term presidency (Goofy Gore). If most Americans agreed with liberal ideals Gore would have won easily. If Bush #1 would have steered away fromn the center he would have been a 2 termer.
I don’t think anyone here implied “most Americans agreed with liberal ideals.”
As for liberal ideals not working, I’m not sure which ones you’re talking about. Liberals got women and minorities the right to vote. They ended segregation. They passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. They created Social Security and Medicare, which lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. At the time these were passed, conservatives opposed all of these things, but now (apparently) they don’t count them as “liberal policies” (and some even take credit for them). So when you or the other conservatives on this blog want to talk about “failed liberal policies” you should probably be a little more specific.
all you have to do is drive through the inner city to see how these wonderful liberal policies helped the black community…now that is a good one.
