What a mess.
It’s painfully apparent that Caroline Kennedy lacks the political skills possessed by her famous father and uncles. Her rollout was terrible, and she’s done nothing to help herself along the way. Now she’s pulling out, and every story suggests a different reason, depending on the source. Can’t she just go on Larry King like everyone else and field some softball questions?
Meanwhile, Governor Patterson looks like a bumbling fool. Why has he stretched this out so long? Why does he keep contradicting himself? In one sense, Kennedy put him in a tough spot, but he also made matters worse.
I initially thought it was a great idea to appoint Caroline Kennedy. Sure, she didn’t have the usual credentials, and it’s probably not fair that she’s benefiting from her famous name, but she’s the sole heir of one of our most influential political figures, and I felt she could be a powerful and unique advocate for Obama’s agenda. She emerged as a real force during the campaign, and this presented an interesting opportunity for her to begin a career in politics.
Unfortunately, she really wasn’t ready. She was too uncomfortable in front of cameras. She never took command of the process. I thought she would seize the moment. I was wrong.

it’s really too bad, it was the beginning of a very nice alliance between Obama and the Kennedys
Sure was- another no-accomplishment pseudo-politician would have been nice in this democratically controlled trifecta of a government we have. Dick Morris had an excellent article today about what’s coming. BO is going to make FDR look like Ronald Reagan.
$350 billion squandered because of idiotic government. I can’t WAIT till we have universal health care. It’s just funny at this point. Rearrange the deck chair boys– we’re going down.
Nick – you listened to Dick Morris during the election. Where did that get you
Gerardo– somehow I KNEW you’d say that, and it sucks because you have a good point! Post the article here and comment on it- I’m very curious on your take.
His article is not worth posting – I can’t take him seriously. He’s borderline crazy.
Think if you were creating a cartoon of all the worst possible things that could happen if Obama got his agenda through, and that’s Dick Morris’s article.
I love big government – it’s gotta be great for the country- look at England, France, Italy, Russia, Cuba, North Korea… I’m hearing that tune from the Wizard of Oz when Dorthy et al comes out of that scary forest…Were outta the woods, Were outta the woods… da da da da.
I must have been in a fog when I was a staunch, free market conservative that valued hard work and self reliance- what the F’ was I thinking????? I’ve see the light, y’all!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just booked my flight for DC- I wanna give old Barney Franke and Tedd Kennedy a big, fat, wet kiss.
Looks like the Guv made an independent choice. Gillabrand is a blue dog and hopefully she can hold the seat.
Yeah Nick, you are right, life in Italy is just awful. I don’t know how I put up with it all, I gotta get back to America, low taxes, fat women and McDonalds
America’s exceptionalism (or past exceptionalism) has always come from the freedom of it’s people, it’s idea of government working FOR the people (not the other way around), it’s high standards, and it’s rewarding success and allowing people to fail.
We are still “free” as a people but far to many people are DEPENDENT on government for far too many things. The government has become an institution for people to gain power and fortune and much of that power and fortune is based on a population that has to remain dependent on it. Standards in this country are now a joke- my oldest son could care less how he does in t-ball and he sucks at it (and he doesn’t care) and he got a trophy every time he played- not only should he NOT have got a trophy- he should have got cut from the team.
I’m sure life in Italy is sweet. Italy could not defend itself in a war and there are no breakthroughs in anything (except maybe wine and Ramano cheese production) that come out of Italy that I can think of (although I am very proud of my Italian background). And that’s all of Europe- we are headed that way.
I now live in a country where teachers cannot grade in red pens, where you can come to work drunk while working on an auto assembly line and keep your job, where a burglar can sue you if he gets injured breaking into your home and where a president can get a blow job in the oval office and the majority of people (in this country and abroad) think it’s perfectly ok (even if the chick was just a hair older than his daughter).
We’ll see what this super fdr is going to do. These are dark days for conservatives.
I can’t believe that I am actually going to put this in writing, however, I find my self agreeing with Nick!
Although, within the very narrowcontext of his last post.
That being said, I think that no one recognizes the way in which one benefits from circumsatances be it poltical. social, or familial until a longrange analysis is complete.
Nostalgia colors recollection and doesn’t always accurately assess outcomes.
So, Nick, although I agree with you in pricipal I’d have to contend that a broader sociological review would be in order to effectively scrutinize cause and effect relationships.
Beware the false arguments.
Shelly! A crack in the door to reason for you…You’ll be listening to Rush soon, watching FOX, and making fun of Keith Olbermann in no time!
Welcome to the fold and to your Age of Enlightenment
– None of this is meant to be condescending, I’m legitimately happy for you!
Nick – many of the things you are complaining about are very legitimate. You might be surprised that Obama agrees with you on much of it, particularly on education.
I understand you disagree with him on many issues, but he has spoke often on personal responsibility. Now that the election is over you might want to keep an open mind on some of these things.
