Glenn Beck completely contradicts himself
Jon Stewart calls out Beck for grossly flip-flopping on the quality of U.S. health care. Beck has either lost his mind or is a total hypocrite. You be the judge.
The bit starts at the 0:30 mark.

I’m all for the debate, but when you have loons like Beck running around stoking the fears of the ignorant, it’s a recipe for chaos.
Maybe that’s what the anti-reform people want.

Poor little Glenn Beck, such a loser, he can not keep his lies straight. But then most of Fake News do the same. Sweet.
The fear that the left has re talk radio is actually funny to see, as are the Town Hall meetings where these idiotic congressmen are getting hammered day after day (the ones that have the stones to have the Town Halls, that is).
Let’s all pray this “reform” goes the way of the Titanic, never to rise again.
It WAS nice to see Barry cave to the pharma companies though!
Nick, your comment has almost nothing to do with the topic of this post.
Idiocy is in the eye of the beholder.

The subtly of the Stewart piece was health care reform with a DIG to Glenn Beck. The entire point of that video was to make Beck look like an idiot- so my post was right on point.
Beck had a bad experience at a hospital. He pointed out flaws in our heath care system. Nevertheless, he believes our health care system is the best in the world (as do I-and evidently so does congress based on the fact that they would be exempt from this horrible horrible bill) and this bill will ruin a good system that services many well.
No one would argue that our system needs some fixing- but single payer is NOT the answer and neither is most of what is in that idiotic bill.
America does not want this crap.
It’s funny we hear Republicans say that they do not want “faceless bureaucrats” making medical decisions but they have no problem with “private sector” “faceless bureaucrats” daily declining medical coverage and financially ruining good hard working people (honestly where can they go with a pre-condition). And who says that the “private sector” is always right, do we forget failures like Long-Term Capital, WorldCom, Global Crossing, Enron, Tyco, AIG and Lehman Brothers. Of course the federal government will destroy heathcare by getting involved, Oh but wait, Medicare and Medicaid and our military men and women and the Senate and Congress get the best heathcare in the world, and oh, that’s right, its run by our federal government. I can understand why some may think that the federal government will fail, if you look at the past eight years as a current history, with failures like the financial meltdown and Katrina but the facts is they can and if we support them they will succeed.
How does shouting down to stop the conversation of the healthcare debate at town hall meetings, endears them to anyone. Especially when the organizations that are telling them where to go and what to do and say are Republicans political operatives, not real grassroots. How does shouting someone down or chasing them out like a “lynch mob” advanced the debate, it does not. So I think the American people will see through all of this and know, like the teabagger, the birthers, these lynch mobs types AKA “screamers” are just the same, people who have to resort to these tactics because they have no leadership to articulate what they real want. It’s easy to pickup a bus load of people who hate, and that’s all I been seeing, they hate and can’t debate. Too bad.
Paul mentions hate. For reference, here’s his first post:
“Poor little Glenn Beck, such a loser, he can not keep his lies straight. But then most of Fake News do the same. Sweet.”
Interesting perspective on hate…..and fits in perfectly on this post with regards to “contradicting oneself.”
Since someone on the right made the mistake of using the UK’s NHS as an example that Americans ought to fear, let’s just cite some numerical facts.
Life expectancy in the UK is 79 years
Life expectancy in the USA is 78 years
Infant mortality in the US is 7 deaths per 1000 births, ranking us 29th in the world, just below Slovakia and Poland. the UK have 5 deaths per 1000 births.
The UK spend on average $2500 per citizen per year for healthcare, the USA spend over $6000 per year.
The biggest joke is that even the insured are paying huge deductables for this result. the numbers cannot be denied, citizens in the USA are being cheated, and the biggest cheats are insurance companies and drug companies.
the most ironic thing is that Obama is NOT proposing anything at all like the NHS. All he is proposing is to put a serious dent in the insurance companies scam by forcing them to compete with a government insurance company who will have citizens interests in mind, not year end bonus checks.
Nick — Stewart wasn’t making Beck look like an idiot, he was making him look like a hypocrite. Which he is. You can’t explain it away with the “he thinks we have the best health care in the world but knows it needs fixing” after the way he railed on our system after his surgery. This is the same guy that said our President has a deep hatred for white people and then a minute later said that wasn’t saying that he hates white people. This is why advertisers are dropping him left and right.
JP/Paul — It’s difficult to argue logically with some conservatives because they’re seeing red. To them, Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim who wants single-payer health care (because he said so six years ago). These conservatives are panicked, and they resort to screaming and name-calling anytime a Democrat tries to get something done.
Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are about to crumble. The post office is about to crumble, and you want this government to be involved in health care.
Tax “freedom” day is now in August, it used to be in May– How much will it take in taxes by the common folk (before you guys will be satisfied) to support all this entitlement garbage?
You guys are amazing. Blind, but amazing.
Check your facts. Medicare and Social Security face bankruptcy (some years down the line) because our largest generation, the Baby Boomers, are retiring, not because either program is horribly inefficient. Medicare has given crucial medical attention that has extended the lives of our seniors while Social Security has lifted millions of the elderly out of poverty. What would you have us do? Set our seniors out to pasture when they are too old to work? This is an odd stance for someone who I’m sure claims to be pro-life.
If you want to live like a libertarian, I suggest you buy yourself a cabin in Montana and disappear. If you want to be part of this society — where even supposedly fiscally conservative Republicans don’t actually suggest we get rid of these two “socialist” programs — then you might just have to accept these evil entitlements. Something tells me that if S.S. is still around when you retire, you’re going to cash those checks.
And tax freedom day is in April, not August. It actually moved up a few days this year.

You brilliantly miss the point as most libs almost always do.
SS, M-care, and M-caid were never funded properly– a perfect illustration of the ineptness of our government— privatize all three and they’ll run fine. I’ve paid more into SS over the course of my life than I care to think about- you’re DAMN right I’m collecting those checks, that’s my money–
If you want to live in some la la liberal utopia, you’d be better off in Cuba, I hear health care is fantastic there– move!
Wake up, brother

Go to Canada, walk down any street and ask 100 canadiens what they think about their healthcare system and if they would prefer instead to have the American system. If you find 5 people who prefer the US system I’d be astonished.
I’ve told this story before– a French Canadian couple lives across the street from me. He’s a Canadian banker in the US doing some work for his bank back home. He’ll be here a few years.
He had to get an MRI–thought it would take 6 months to get it done. Called the doctors office and they told him to come in the next day at noon, he almost fell over.
He says this is the greatest health care he could ever imagine.
That’s all I need to know.
This argument always cracks me up. Has anyone ever suggested that Canada’s health care system is the best in the world? Has Obama said he’s modeling his plan off of Canada’s system?
The goal should be to come up with a system that works for everyone, using all past and present systems (here and abroad) as examples of what works and what doesn’t. If you think our system couldn’t be improved, you’re wearing blinders.
From Nick’s article:
“competition should be welcomed, not feared.”
Isn’t that what Obama is doing by introducing a public option and therefore creating competition that will hopefully force the insurance companies to lower their rates?
“Ouellet believes there could be a role for private health-care delivery within the public system.”
Obama isn’t trying to get rid of private health-care delivery; he’s just offering a public option. Why is it that so many people choose to ignore this?
I went to the doctor complaining about headaches in the US and ended up having an MRI in less than a week. If my MD had bothered to actually listen to me he’d have found that all I needed was to balance my work life a bit better with my private life but I guess he felt that a 28 year old non smoker in perfect shape and good vitals might have a brain tumor (or maybe just maybe he liked my insurance coverage).
I’d love to know what malady plagued your Canadian friend. I bet he had a bad case of gas.
Common sense is something missing in the American system because it’s so driven by the obsession with high margin procedures.
…American MDs also overkill on tests because they are scared of malpractice suits.
But the one great thing about the American system are those wonderful medicine adverts on television. They are just so very useful and necessary. We don’t have those adverts in Europe and it really drives the quality of care down. Oh, and we don’t have a bunch of ex frat boys who never went to class working 25 hours per week for $80,000 a year visiting and golfing with MDs and assisting the MD in his practice by informing him all about the latest drugs. I can’t tell you how many people die in Europe because we don’t have drunken flunky ex frat boys who barely got a college degree, helping our doctors learn more about medication. It’s really a travesty. You’re right Nick, three cheers for the private sector!!
Nick, I was hoping you’d respond to my questions regarding your earlier post and my thoughts about the article you linked to.
If your questions was related to “competition,” here’s the response to that. The private sector cannot possibly compete with the government. The government can basically print money, raise taxes, and doesn’t have to worry about competition or employee costs, or utility costs….or any of that– the private sector will not survive.
The problems of health care a many–
We cannot keep taking care of illegals- start by shutting down the boarder.
A portion of the “un-insured” choose not to be insured, they can afford it but do not want to pay for it.
A portion of the “un-insured” can be on medicaid and chose not to sign up.
A start would be for doctors to get some big tax break for taking care of indigent people.
Another thing to look at is tort reform and malpractice claims.
Another place to look at is waste and inefficiencies.
I don’t know the complete answer–I do know if government gets involved people that don’t have insurance will be covered poorly, and people that have insurance will be covered poorly. Government has a knack of fixing one problem that creates 7 other worse problems.
Nick. You’re right, let’s raise the pay of those fine pharmacuetical sales reps. Golf course fees are getting higher every year (though they expense those I guess)
I wont take advice, from someone you says, “Keep the government hands off my health care!” Then
continues to use his or hers government run health care program.
Those in the Tea Party. On Medicare:
The Senators, that use their government furnished and run health care program.
Hypocrite comes to mind.
Speak the truth with love, not anger born out of fear. Thanks all for trying to understand, as I do also.
