Jon Stewart calls out Beck for grossly flip-flopping on the quality of U.S. health care. Beck has either lost his mind or is a total hypocrite. You be the judge.
Since Barack Obama announced his candidacy for President, we’ve seen the lunatic fringe on the right push the limits of idiocy. Since his election, the levels of insanity on the right have grown exponentially.
The “birther” movement has set a new standard, even by the standards of the loony right wing. They make the teabaggers looks like sober economic scholars.
Pay particular attention to his smackdown of Lou Dobbs, who brings up “questions” surrounding Obama’s place of birth several days after a guest host ON HIS OWN SHOW completely debunks the asinine story. Further proof that Lou Dobbs is a complete buffoon. Why is this clown still on CNN?
I have a couple of conservative friends who say that they find “The Colbert Report” funny, which always struck me as odd since his whole shtick is that he’s an uneducated, close-minded conservative pundit. (The show started off as a bit spoof of Bill O’Reilly that Colbert put together for “The Daily Show.”) I never pursued the issue with them, but it’s apparent now with the release of a study conducted by Ohio State University that many conservatives think that Colbert is actually conservative. They realize that his show utilizes satire, but while the rest of us realize that 80-90% of his time is spent making Republicans and Republican policy look foolish, conservatives think that there is sincerity beneath his satire. Here is a segment on “Countdown,” where Keith Olbermann interviews the lead writer of the study.
I always wondered who was dumb enough to schedule Colbert to speak at the White House Press Corps Dinner a few years ago, but I guess if conservatives really think he’s a conservative, then it makes sense. If you haven’t watched his roast of George W. Bush, it’s definitely worth a look.
MSNBC is having a field day with this one. See how many double entendres you can find in the following clip. Hint – Dick Armey is one of the easy ones!
Gerardo brought you Jon Stewart’s skewering of the know-nothing know-it-alls over at CNBC. While most of the CNBC personalities wisely kept their mouths shut, Jim Cramer called foul, saying that Stewart’s claim that Cramer said to buy Bear Stearns stock days before it collapsed was false.
Okay, so Cramer didn’t give a “buy” recommendation in the original video, but five days later he basically gave it a “hold” recommendation and seven weeks before it collapsed he literally asked people to go out and buy Bear Stearns stock.
So then Cramer goes around to the NBC shows — “The Today Show,” “Morning Joe,” etc. — and badmouths Stewart…for what? Calling him out?
Jim, here’s some free advice: Don’t get into a war with Jon Stewart. You’re just going to lose. He’s funnier than you, has better researchers than you do, but mostly…he’s right. You are supposed to be one of the nation’s leading financial experts and you didn’t see this financial collapse coming. Anytime that someone suggested a market downturn, he was shouted down on CNBC and every other financial network out there.
So my advice to you is to take your lumps and move on. Starting a feud with Stewart is only going to give him more ammunition to roll clips of you making a horrible recommendation (or several horrible recommendations). Stock market bubbles start because guys like you create a false sense of urgency and security. But every single time the market has a steep rise, there is some sort of correction, and this one is/was worse than most.
I know your first instinct is to defend yourself. But you were wrong about Bear Stearns and countless other stocks over the past few months. Quit grousing about someone calling you out for not doing your job. Get over it.
I’ve been stunned by what I’ve been seeing on CNBC. After most of the clowns on this networks completely missed the financial crisis, we have them lecturing the Obama administration about its efforts to dig us out of this mess and address long-term problems like health care and energy.
Rick Santelli has received the most press with his idiotic rant, but Jim Cramer has pushed the envelope on irresponsible rhetoric, calling Obama “Lenin” and saying he wants to destroy capitalism. This over-the-top rhetoric is absurd, particularly when you watch the video below. Cramer has been so spectacularly wrong about the banks that he looks like a complete fool now.
Bill O’Reilly is entertaining as hell, mostly because of his ability to contradict himself on a consistent basis. For example, he repeatedly says he supports the right to privacy in the constitution, yet he also says he wants conservative judges. He doen’t seem to understand that conservative judicial philosophy looks at the right to privacy as one of the worst examples of liberals expanding the rights under the constitution.
Jon Stewart has fun with O’Reilly in the clip blow, as O’Reilly attacks the paparazzi who stalk celebrities, but then encourages his own producers to stalk anyone who has the audacity to disagree with him on an issue. What a putz.
The wingnuts on the right have been worshipping Ronald Reagan for years, and now they have a new patron saint – Sarah Palin. Yes, the “disasta from Alaska” will probably remain in the hearts of conservatives for years. They might even be dumb enough to nominate her for president.
In the meantime, the super-far-right Newsmax has introduced the 2009 Sarah Palin Calendar. Naturally, she’s holding a gun in the cover shot. They’re promoting this like crazy, sending out emails with the title: “Hot Sarah Palin Calendar Just Released.”
I’m a fan of Olbermann’s show, but I can see why some don’t like him much, and this clip shows him at his self-righteous worst. That said, he was one of the first in the media to call out the Bush administration for their more outrageous acts, so much of the bluster was more than warranted.
Also, there’s one big difference between Keith and other blowhards like Bill O’Reilly – he has a sense of humor and can laugh at himself. I first saw this clip on Keith’s show. He also showed the over-the-top SNL skit about him last week.
O’Reilly, on the other hand, would probably have put 23/6 on his enemies list, calling them left-wing radicals for questioning him in any way.
The movie is just as bad as the Bush presidency. Josh Brolin gives an inspired performance, but most of the film falls flat.
The film works best when focusing on Bush’s life story and his rise to the presidency. His relationship with his father was central to his life, and his interactions with his parents and Laura inspired the more interesting parts of the film.
Regarding his presidency, however, all we see are caricatures of the people around him. Scenes are invented based upon public statements we saw in other contexts, but they seem forced and inauthentic. Historians can rightfully criticize the roles of administrations officials like Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, but the portrayals of these men in the film are ridiculous.
Someday, we’ll see a serious movie that delves into the disasterous Bush presidency and the march to war, but “W” is not that movie. Oliver Stone goes for a lighter touch, but he doesn’t deliver enough laughs to make this a successfult comedy. In the end, it’s mostly a waste of time.
