Peggy on Hillary

Andrew points out this great quote.

What do I think is the biggest reason Mrs. Clinton came back? She kept her own spirits up to the point of denial and worked it, hard, every day. She is hardy, resilient, tough. She is a train on a track, an Iron Horse. But we must not become carried away with generosity. The very qualities that impress us are the qualities that will make her a painful president. She does not care what you think, she will have what she wants, she will not do the feints, pivots and backoffs that presidents must. She is neither nimble nor agile, and she knows best. She will wear a great nation down.

Hillary is an arrogant know-it-all. She doesn’t compromise, and her secretive nature is worse than the Bush administration.

Time for a speech on patriotism

What is real patriotism? Does it involve wearing a flag pin? Of course not, and that’s Obama’s position. True patriots want America, the country we all love, to achieve its true greatness. That means standing up and speaking one’s mind when the government is screwing things up.

Obama constantly addresses these themes, and as pointed out in the post below, he spoke to that in his latest speech as well. But he needs to hammer this point home, and address all the silly rumors circulating around the web. A stop on the Larry King show afterwards wouldn’t be a bad idea as well.

Andrew Sullivan has some good advice for Obama, and he touches on this point as well.

Make a speech about the Internet slurs. Stop ducking them. Confront them. Talk about your Christian faith and your childhood exposure to Islam. Tell people about your parents. Debunk that idiotic pledge of allegiance meme. Grab the flag pin issue by the lapels. Do it all at once undefensively. Yes, it will raise the profile of every single slur. But if you rebut them candidly, gracefully, calmly, you will defuse them. You can run but you can’t hide from Internet crapola. So confront it; defeat it. Right now, on these issues alone, the Obama camp is actually captive to the politics of fear. Don’t be.

Hillary endorses McCain

She basically says McCain crossses the “commander-in-chief threshold” because of his military service, and then she claims that SHE crosses that threshold as well! She will not give Obama the same status.

This is absurd in so many ways it’s hard to know where to begin.

First, she’s talking up the REPUBLICAN candidate in order to make an argument on her behalf. Again, the Clintons only care about the Clintons. They don’t give a damn about the Democratic Party. Many angry progressives have gone so far to suggest that she would like to see Obama lose if he gets the nomination in order to set herself up for 2012. That statement seems extreme until you start listening to the arguments she is putting forward.

Next, where is her experience that qualifies her to be commander-in-chief! Has she ever served in the military? No. Does she have any executive experience? No. Did dhe have national security clearance when she was First Lady? No. She traveled the world as First Lady, but that was mostly a ceremonial role. Her claim here is ridiculous.

It’s even more ridiculous when one considers the Iraq War vote. She blew it. She never read the full National Intelligence Estimate. The Senator who is supposed to be so hard-working and prepared didn’t do her homework. Or maybe she didn’t want to do it. It was a huge political risk to stand up to George Bush in 2002, and she wanted to run for President. We know now how bad she wants it, and we shouldn’t be surprised that she didn’t want to do anything that would risk her glorious future.

The Internet in Cuba

Many Cubans are using it to challenge the government.

We should end the draconian travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans immediately and start to engage the Cuban government. This will embolden the Cuban people to demand more changes.

I’d like to see Obama go down to South Florida and give a major address on Cuba and foreign policy. He can use Cuba as an example of how the old ways of doing things don’t make sense.
