Howard Dean on the Foley scandal

Great quote from Howard Dean:

I’m not going to say somebody should resign or something like that. But I will say this: [Rep.] Ray LaHood [an Illinois Republican] says they should get rid of the page program. They should not get rid of the page program. They should get rid of the people who run the page program, and that’s the Republican leadership. In the past, when things like this happened, they acted in unison in a bipartisan way to deal with it. Here they keep [Rep.] Dale Kildee [a Michigan Democrat] in the dark; they never even told the Democrats who were supervising the page program about this. They didn’t let our side of the aisle know. Why? Because, they considered this a political problem. This is not a political problem. This is a human problem, and it should have been dealt with a year ago.

Frist sneaks gambling provision into military bill

Do we really need the government to ban online gambling? We’re in the middle of a war, and this is what the GOP leadership has decided to push as a priority.

Senator Bill Frist is trying to sneak the provision to prohibit people from using credit cards to settle Internet gambling debts.

Is anyone in Congress willing to protect our liberties? Certianly not the GOP. The religious right would ban everything fun if they had their way. The Democrats aren’t much better. They don’t want to ban this stuff, but they’re gutless and afraid to stand up to the religious nuts in this country. Just look at the Terry Schiavo fiasco.

Mel Gibson takes shot at George Bush

Mel Gibson became the darling of the religious right and many Republicans last year when he released “The Passion of the Christ.” With his new project, however, his many supporters might be shocked to hear what Gibson has to say about President Bush:

He tells British film magazine Hotdog, “The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys”.

Gibson’s new film, Apocalypto, depicts the thousands of human sacrafices conducted by the Mayan Indians in an attempt to save their kingdom. Gibson will get plenty of opportunities to further slam Bush when the film is released later this year.
